A bear and her cub, ‘Lil Bear live in a cave near a dark forest and a meandering stream. Every day, the mama bear teaches her furry bundle of joy how to survive in the world. While ‘Lil Bear learns how to forage for nuts and seeds, wash himself, and climb a tree, he soon makes a friend, Blue Bird, who begins taking him on all sorts of fun adventures.
After Blue Bird becomes an important part of their family, one day he and ‘Lil Bear find a kite in the woods. They have so much fun flying it that they forget to pay attention to their surroundings. As darkness falls, the friends soon realize that they are lost and alone. Now they must rely on what they have learned from Mama Bear in order to endure a long night in the woods and hopefully return home in time for the change in seasons.
In this adventurous tale for children, a young bear and his feathered friend learn many valuable lessons about adventure, survival, and most importantly, love.
When ‘Lil bear woke up one morning, and could not find mama bear, he asked Blue Bird who was in a tree near the cave, if he had seen his mama. Blue Bird showed him where mama bear was, up in a nearby tree, gathering honey. Blue Bird was then his friend.
When Mama Bear and ‘Lil Bear and Blue Bird woke up one morning it was dark, raining and there was rumbling and flashes of light. ‘Lil Bear asked Mama Bear what it was and she told him it was a thunderstorm. She also told him it was dangerous to go out because sometimes the lightning strikes trees – they can explode and start a fire. So Blue Bird and ‘Lil Bear made up the game of running back to ‘Lil Bear’s bed when the lightening flashed and racing back to the cave entrance when the thunder banged.
Blue Bird flew down from a tree when Mama Bear and ‘Lil Bear were going fishing and told ‘Lil Bear they were getting ready to “migrate”. Their family was flying south to warmer weather, just as ‘Lil Bear and Mama Bear were getting ready for winter slumber. ‘Lil Bear said “that means we won’t see each other again since you’ll be migrating and we’ll be hibernating. So, before Blue Bird left the cave that night, it was decided that they would meet again in the spring.
